The government on Monday proposed an allocation of Tk2,455 crore for the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry in the national budget for 2025-2026 fiscal saying it aimed to bolster domestic aviation and unlock tourism sector’s untapped potentials.

According to the documents unveiled by Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed out of the proposed amount, Tk2,401 crore was earmarked for the ministry’s Annual Development Programme (ADP), while Tk54 crore was proposed for operational expenses.

The revised allocation for the sector in the outgoing fiscal was Tk4,878 crore against the original budgetary allocation of Tk5,695 crore.

The adviser proposed a reduction in customs duty rates from 3 to 10% on all types of jet fuel and aviation spirits expecting to reduce airfares and stimulate passenger growth, particularly for domestic carriers.

“VAT exemption has been granted for lease rent of aircraft used for passenger transport (as well),” Ahmed said while the step is likely to enhance the operational capacity of both national and private airlines.

Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed presented the proposed budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, amounting to Tk7,89,999 crore, in a televised speech on Monday.
