Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed on Monday afternoon began unveiling a proposed national budget of Tk7,89,999 crore for the 2025–26 fiscal year, slightly lower than the previous year’s plan.
The adviser started delivering the speech at 3pm on state-run Bangladesh Television (BTV).
The proposed outlay is around Tk7,000 crore less than the original budget for the ongoing 2024–25 fiscal year.
The budget targets a GDP growth rate of 5.5%, with a projected deficit of Tk2,66,000 crore, equivalent to 3.6% of the total budget.
Inflation is expected to be contained at 6.5%, while the Annual Development Programme (ADP) is set at Tk2,30,000 crore.
Authorities have described the fiscal plan as contractionary in nature.
Earlier in the day, the budget was approved at a special meeting of the advisory council, chaired by Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus, at the Chief Adviser’s Office in Tejgaon.
Following the approval, President Mohammed Shahabuddin signed the budget documents.
Salehuddin then travelled to BTV’s headquarters in Rampura with the documents, where the budget presentation was broadcast.
