Subrata Bain, listed as a top criminal in the country, has said that he has been imprisoned in a secret prison known as “Aynaghor” for two and a half years during the Awami League regime and was released on the night of 5 August.

He made this statement in court on Wednesday.

Subrata also delivered a long speech to journalists at a court, urging journalists not to engage in "yellow journalism" about him.

He also blamed the media for portraying him as an extortionist and said he is a “powerless” and “moneyless” man.

Subrata said: “Journalists keep so much news, two and a half years ago they kept me in the Aynaghor, but that news was not published.”

Claiming that he was brought to the country in handcuffs in 2022, and said: “I was kept in Aynaghor, which was small like a grave. They beat me with rods.”

“I have been blamed as a criminal, extortionist. Show me any evidence that I have committed extortion, robbery. Arrest those who are extorting by selling my name,” he added.

Subrata also commented that if he had money, he would have opened a newspaper office and a TV office.

He said: "I have no power. I don't need power. Power revolves around me. I bow down to the greatest power."

He did not deny the accusation of keeping weapons with him.

Claiming that it was for security reasons, he said: "Who wants to die?"

"I have had enemies since 1984-85. Liaquat, Murgi Milon, Amir Hossain Amu were my enemies. I reached this position after fighting against them,” he added.

Subrata Bain addressed journalists before the remand hearing and said: “Write the truth, write perfectly about me, don’t write anything else.”

He said that there should be no yellow journalism, adding: “Journalists have been writing since 1989, but they have not reached the right place.”

“Journalists have become accustomed to writing saucy stories. But no one has any proof,” he continued.

"Journalists write without knowing anything. I have a family too," Subrata added.

"I hope the new generation of journalists will tell the truth,” he further said.
