Met office forecasts light to moderate rain across Bangladesh

The highest recorded rainfall in the past 24 hours till 6am on Thursday was 110 millimeters in Sylhet

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Thursday forecasted that light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely to occur in various parts of the country over the next 24 hours, beginning Thursday morning.

"Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by lightning and temporary gusty winds are likely at many places in Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions; at a few places in Dhaka and Rajshahi divisions; and at one or two places in Khulna, Barisal, and Chittagong divisions. Moderately heavy to heavy rainfall may occur at places in Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions," the forecast added.

A trough of low pressure lies over West Bengal, extending to the North Bay across the southwestern part of Bangladesh. The southwest monsoon has advanced up to the Akyab coast of Myanmar, and conditions are favorable for further advancement.

A low-pressure area is likely to form over the South Bay by Monday.

A mild heat wave is sweeping over Madaripur, Pabna, Khulna, Jessore, Chuadanga, Kushtia, and Satkhira, and it may continue.

Day and night temperatures may rise slightly across the country.

The highest temperature in the country on Wednesday was recorded at 37.4°C in Jessore, while the lowest was 21.8°C in Sreemangal.

The highest recorded rainfall in the past 24 hours till 6am on Thursday was 110 millimeters in Sylhet.
