Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said action will be taken if any vehicle heading to a designated Eid-ul-Azha cattle market is stopped midway.
He issued the warning while briefing reporters on Monday afternoon after a law and order meeting at the Secretariat, ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Azha.
The adviser said that during Eid-ul-Azha, disorder is often observed at sacrificial cattle markets.
To address this, it has been decided that vehicles transporting sacrificial animals from different parts of the country must display clear information about their designated market, he added.
“Cattle cannot be unloaded randomly. Animals must be dropped off only at the assigned locations, not on the roads.”
Jahangir said: “For security reasons, each market must have Ansar personnel. Some markets may have 75 personnel, while others may have more or fewer.”
He continued: “In addition to security, veterinary doctors must be present at each market to prevent the sale of sick animals. Since people are sometimes injured by cattle, first aid arrangements must also be in place. Although a 5% commission will be collected this year, from next year it must be limited to 4%.”
The adviser also said that bulkhead vessel movement will be restricted from five days before Eid until three days after. "These vessels must not operate at night under any circumstances."
Regarding passenger transport, the adviser warned that buses, trains and boats must not carry passengers beyond capacity ahead of Eid. The same rule will apply to the transportation of animals, he added.
“People will always have various demands, and all ministries should accommodate reasonable ones. However, no one should make irrational demands, and demonstrators must remain within their designated premises to avoid causing public suffering by blocking roads.”
