Biman suspends Narita flight operations

Biman urges affected travellers to contact their respective sales offices, ticket counters, or authorized agents to process refunds or rebookings

Update : 18 May 2025, 05:20 PM

Biman Bangladesh Airlines on Sunday announced the suspension of its direct flights on the Dhaka-Narita-Dhaka route, effective from July 1.

The national flag carrier made the decision due to operational constraints stemming from ongoing Hajj operations, aircraft shortages, and prevailing commercial considerations, according to a press release issued by the airline.

Passengers who have already purchased tickets for flights on or after July 1 will be eligible for a full refund or ticket reissuance without any deduction, the airline said.

Biman has requested affected travellers to contact their respective sales offices, ticket counters, or authorized agents to process refunds or rebookings.

The airline expressed regret for the inconvenience and thanked passengers for their understanding during this temporary disruption.

On September 1, 2023, Biman resumed its Dhaka-Narita flights with the aim of making Bangladesh-Japan direct air connectivity a profitable route.

Biman had previously suspended its Dhaka-Tokyo route in 2006, as it was not commercially viable at the time and there was a lack of sufficient aircraft, according to aviation stakeholders.
