NID services suspended across Bangladesh

The issue has arisen due to OTPs not being received during server login

Update : 13 May 2025, 01:50 PM

National Identity Card (NID) services have been temporarily suspended across the country.

The issue has occurred due to the failure in receiving One-Time Passwords (OTP) required for accessing the NID server.

On Tuesday, Director General of the National Identity Registration Division, ASM Humayun Kabir, confirmed this information to the media.

The director general said: “To log in to the server, user ID and password must be entered, followed by a one-time password. However, the OTP is currently not being received. As a result, officials and employees are unable to access the server, and NID services are currently suspended. However, the processes of taking photographs and collecting biometrics are still ongoing.”

He further said: “This is not due to a server issue. The OTP service provider used by the Election Commission (EC) for operating the NID services is facing a system malfunction. The company is working to resolve the problem. Once the OTP-related issue is resolved, all services will resume.”

Speaking with several field-level EC officials, it was learned that they have been unable to provide services to applicants since morning due to the absence of OTPs. They have been informed that the issue will likely be resolved by noon.
