Bangladesh Railway has planned to run 10 special trains to ease travel for holidaymakers ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
The trains will operate for three days before Eid (June 4–6) and six days after Eid (June 9–14).
On Monday, Railways Secretary Md Fahimul Islam disclosed the information to the media.
Fahimul Islam said 10 special trains—five pairs—will operate to facilitate Eid travel. Regular intercity trains will continue to operate as usual during this period.
According to the special train schedule, the Chandpur Eid Special 1 and 2 will run on the Chittagong–Chandpur–Chittagong route. These two trains will run from June 4–6 before Eid and from June 9–14 after Eid.
Chandpur Eid Special 1 will depart Chittagong at 3:20pm and arrive in Chandpur at 8:15pm. Chandpur Eid Special 2 will depart Chandpur at 3:30am and arrive in Chittagong at 8:10am.
The Teesta Eid Special 3 and 4 will run on the Dhaka–Dewangonj–Dhaka route. These trains will also operate from June 4–6 before Eid and from June 9–14 after Eid.
Teesta Eid Special 3 will depart Dhaka at 9:30am and arrive in Dewangonj at 3:30pm. Teesta Eid Special 4 will depart Dewangonj at 4:30pm and arrive in Dhaka at 10:15pm.
The Sholakia Eid Special 5 and 6 will run on the Bhairab Bazar–Kishoreganj–Bhairab Bazar route. These two trains will operate only on Eid day. Sholakia Eid Special 5 will leave Bhairab Bazar at 6am and arrive in Kishoreganj at 8am. Sholakia Eid Special 6 will depart Kishoreganj at 12pm and reach Bhairab Bazar at 2pm.
The Sholakia Eid Special 7 and 9 will run on the Mymensingh–Kishoreganj–Mymensingh route. These trains will also run only on Eid day.
Sholakia Eid Special 6 will leave Mymensingh at 5:45am and arrive in Kishoreganj at 8:30am. Sholakia Eid Special 8 will depart Kishoreganj at 12pm and reach Mymensingh at 3pm.
The Parbatipur Eid Special 9 and 10 will run on the Joydebpur–Parbatipur–Joydebpur route. These trains will operate from June 4–6 before Eid and from June 9–14 after Eid.
Parbatipur Eid Special 9 will depart Joydebpur at 7pm and reach Parbatipur at 2:30am. Parbatipur Eid Special 10 will leave Parbatipur at 8:15am and arrive in Joydebpur at 2:20pm.
After Eid, however, Parbatipur Eid Special 9 will depart Joydebpur at 8:15am and reach Parbatipur at 2:50pm. Parbatipur Eid Special 10 will depart Parbatipur at 10:20pm and arrive in Joydebpur at 5:45am.
It is to be noted that tickets for intercity trains ahead of Eid will be sold as follows: tickets for May 31 will go on sale on May 21; tickets for June 1 on May 22; tickets for June 2 on May 23; tickets for June 3 on May 24; tickets for June 4 on May 25; tickets for June 5 on May 26; and tickets for June 6 on May 27.
To facilitate passengers, all intercity train tickets for the western region will go on sale at 8am, while tickets for all trains operating in the eastern region will be sold from 2pm.
