Dr Yunus urges swift reforms to ensure December elections

Discussions are underway with political parties on the recommendations of various reform commissions

Chief Adviser and Chairman of the National Consensus Commission Prof Muhammad Yunus on Saturday urged to take forward the reform works quickly in an effort to hold national elections in December.

Dr Yunus stressed discussions with the political parties and advanced the overall reform process, with the aim of holding national elections in December.

He made this call during a meeting with two members of the Consensus Commission.

As of Saturday, discussions were held with eight political parties.

A meeting with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is scheduled for Thursday, said the Chief Adviser's press wing.

The meeting was held at the official residence of the Chief Advisor at state guesthouse Jamuna.

National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Prof Ali Riaz and member Dr Badiul Alam Majumder attended the meeting.

Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor (Consensus Building) Monir Haider was present at the time.

Prof Ali Riaz and Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder informed the Chairman of the Commission about the progress of the National Consensus Commission's activities.

They said that separate discussions are underway with political parties on the recommendations of various reform commissions.

They also said that various programs have been taken to gauge public opinion on the reform process and create public awareness about it.
