The Ministry of Education’s Department of Secondary and Higher Education has appointed a man who passed away nearly two years ago as a college principal.
The deceased, Jamal Uddin, was among 135 BCS General Education Cadre professors appointed to new positions at various colleges on Tuesday.
According to the official notice, Mohammad Jamal Uddin was posted as the principal of Mir Ismail Hossain College in Kurigram. However, he had passed away on April 12, 2023, while serving as the head of the Physics Department at Kurigram Government College. The error has sparked shock and concern, especially among family members.
Jamal Uddin was the father of Fairuz Sadaf Abontika, a Jagannath University (JnU) Law student who died by suicide on March 15 last year after posting a detailed Facebook status
In her post, Abontika accused a fellow classmate, Amman Siddiqui, and Assistant Proctor Din Islam of repeated harassment. Both individuals were later arrested on charges of abetment to suicide and are currently out on bail. Abontika's mother,
Tahmina Shabnam, expressed deep dismay at the Ministry’s oversight, stating that neither her husband nor daughter lived to see the recognition and success they were due.
The Education Ministry has not yet issued a public explanation regarding how a deceased individual was included in the latest round of principal appointments.
