The government has nominated eight distinguished individuals for the Independence Award this year in recognition of their outstanding and commendable contributions at the national level.
According to a high-level government source on Thursday, the official announcement of the award recipients will be made soon.
The eminent personalities nominated for the 2025 Independence Award includes the Chief Commander of the Liberation War MAG Osmani, renowned Scientist Professor Jamal Nazrul Islam, the Founder of Brac Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, distinguished writer and intellectual Badruddin Umar, celebrated Poet Al Mahmud, one of the key designers of the Central Shaheed Minar Novera Ahmed, Bangladeshi pop music artist Azam Khan and a student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) Abrar Fahad.
Abrar Fahad was tragically killed in October 2019 by leaders and activists of the now-banned student organization, Bangladesh Chhatra League.
