Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has temporarily suspended two joint police commissioners from their positions following an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Biplob Kumar Sarker, Joint Police Commissioner (South) of DMP, and SM Mehdi Hasan, Joint Police Commissioner of DMP’s Traffic (South) Division, were both removed from their duties for failing to inform authorities about their absence from work.
The suspension order was made through separate notifications from the Police-1 branch of the Public Security Division, signed by Senior Secretary Nasimul Gani.
According to the notification, both officers had been absent from their posts since August 6 of the previous year without proper authorization, either orally or in writing.
This breach of conduct violates the Government Employees (Discipline and Appeal) Regulations, 2018, specifically Rule 2 (ch), leading to their suspension, effective from August 6, 2024.
During the suspension period, Biplob Kumar Sarker will be reassigned to the office of the DIG of Barisal Range, while SM Mehdi Hasan will be sent to the office of the DIG of Sylhet Range. Both officers will continue to receive their maintenance allowance during this time, as per the regulations.
