Home Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury accused the Awami League and its allies of attempting to destabilize the country, alleging they were using vast sums of money to incite unrest.

"But we will not let this happen," he said during an emergency press briefing at his residence at 3am on Monday.

He warned that such actions would not be tolerated and vowed severe consequences for those involved.

"Those responsible will lose their sleep; they will have no place anywhere," he said.

Jahangir further said that he had instructed security forces to intensify operations starting Tuesday. "If they fail to perform well, I will take strict action against them," he added.

Dismissing concerns about worsening law and order, he said: "There is no way for the situation to deteriorate—it will only improve."

Earlier, a group of students protested at Dhaka University around 1am on Monday, issuing a 24-hour ultimatum for the home affairs adviser’s resignation.

Addressing the demand, Jahangir argued that if progress was truly being made, there was no reason for him to step down.
