Three individuals, including former Tangail-5 MP Sanowar Hossain, have been sent to jail following a three-day remand in an attempted murder case linked to the anti-discrimination movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehdi Hasan issued the order on Thursday after a hearing.
The other accused are Awami League leader Sadek Dhali, also known as Salahuddin Sadek Dhali, and Mohammad Abu Musa Ansari, vice president of Brahmanbaria Sadar Upazila Awami League.
The investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Mohammad Farhad Kalam Sujon of Bhatara Police Station, had requested that the accused remain in jail until the investigation was complete. The court granted the request.
Police arrested the three during a special operation in the Bhatara area between 11:30pm on February 15 and 3:30am the following morning. They were initially sent to jail on February 16, and on February 17, the court granted a three-day remand.
According to the case statement, Mithun Fakir joined student activists in an anti-discrimination protest in Baridhara, Bhatara, on August 5. He was shot by the accused and treated at Kurmitola Hospital before being discharged on August 11. On December 19, he filed a case with Bhatara Police Station, naming 88 individuals and 200 to 300 unidentified suspects.
