The Adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Nahid Islam, clarified that the government has not made any decision regarding his resignation or that of his colleague, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan.
Responding to questions from journalists at the Secretariat on Thursday afternoon, Nahid assured that if a resignation decision were made, it would be officially communicated to the press.
Nahid also addressed the rumors surrounding the resignation, saying that no such decision has been made by him or Asif, and there has been no formal discussion on the matter.
He further explained that political parties had raised questions about forming a new political party while remaining in government, but he emphasized that they would not be involved with any political party while holding their current government positions.
"There has been no decision or plan regarding this so far," he confirmed.
Regarding reports of a potential ban on the Awami League, Nahid remarked that the government has not yet reached a conclusion. He noted that legal proceedings are ongoing and expressed a desire to wait for the tribunal's judgment.
"The court's opinion is crucial, and there are also political discussions surrounding this issue," he added. '
Nahid emphasized that the matter is not solely legal but also political.
From a personal perspective, Nahid said that the Awami League, after having exercised what he called fascism for 15 years and being involved in the July-August genocide, should not be allowed to continue political activities in Bangladesh.
"We believe the Awami League should not have the opportunity to engage in politics under its current name and banner," he said.
Nahid stressed that both the legal and political processes need to be explored to determine the next steps. He also reiterated their commitment to avoiding political vendettas, saying: "We seek reconciliation and justice."
