Salman F Rahman placed on 3-day remand in mass uprising murder case

He was arrested from the capital's Sadarghat area as he attempted to flee the city

A Dhaka court on Monday placed Salman F Rahman, the former private industry affairs adviser to ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on a three-day remand in a case filed over the killing of one Al-Amin during the student-led July-August mass uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saifuzzaman passed the order as police produced Salman, believed to be one of the orchestrators of the biggest financial crimes in the country in recent times, before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand.

Salman F Rahman was arrested from the capital's Sadarghat area as he attempted to flee the city along with former law minister Anisul Huq via the waterways on August 13, 2024.

He was placed on a 10-day remand in the Shahjahan Ali murder case the following day.

According to the case documents, police and Awami League cadres attacked agitating protesters during the anti-discrimination student movement in the capital's Jatrabari area on July 21.

They fired at the protesters indiscriminately.

Al-Amin was shot during the attack and died on the spot.

His father filed the case with the Jatrabari Police Station against 99 named accused individuals and 100-150 unnamed others.
