Agriculture Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has admitted that the authorities have not yet been able to identify the syndicate responsible for manipulating the rice market.
Despite a drop in coarse rice prices, the high cost of fine rice remains a concern.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday afternoon at Khamarbari after inspecting the Department of Agricultural Marketing and Agricultural Information Service, he noted the challenges in addressing market irregularities.
“We have not been able to identify the syndicate behind the rice market, and therefore, we cannot break it,” he said.
When asked about reports of a security threat on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Rome to Dhaka, the adviser dismissed them as baseless.
“This is fake news. Nothing happened. The information was false, and efforts are underway to identify those responsible for spreading it. If found, they will be brought under the law,” he assured.
Commenting on the newly introduced uniforms for the police, RAB, and Ansar forces, Jahangir Alam emphasized the need for a transformation in mindset over appearances.
“I have said before, if there is no change in mindset and mentality, nothing will improve. Uniforms alone are not enough. Corruption must be reduced, and you must fight against it. If corruption is minimized, everything will get better,” he said.
