A Bangladeshi expatriate couple in Australia drowned while trying to save their daughters at Walpole Beach in Perth.

The deceased are Shahadul Hasan Swapon and Sabrina Ahmed Papri.

Their two daughters survived and are in good health.

The incident occurred on Saturday near the city of Perth, at a location called Walpole. Local police recovered their bodies from the beach.

The incident was confirmed by Shafayet Hossain, a fellow expatriate and a former classmate of the couple.

Shahadul and Sabrina had gone on a holiday trip to Walpole with 4-5 other families during the Christmas break.

During the outing, their two daughters were caught in the rip current of the sea.

The couple immediately rushed into the water to rescue them.

Although they managed to save their daughters, the couple themselves drowned.

Shahadul was a former student of the 1997 batch of the Urban and Rural Planning (URP) discipline at Khulna University, while Sabrina belonged to the 2003 batch of the same department.

Shahadul was a faculty member at Curtin University in Australia.

The Khulna University Alumni Association (KUAA), the Bangladesh Institute of Planners (BIP), and the Khulna University Planners Alumni Association have expressed profound grief and sympathy over their untimely demise.

The couple's self-sacrifice and premature death have cast a deep shadow of mourning among their friends, classmates, acquaintances, and the Bangladeshi community in Australia.

The expatriate Bangladeshi community has also stepped forward to provide assistance to ensure the safety and secure future of their two daughters.
