The start date for online applications for the undergraduate first-year admission tests (academic year 2024-2025) at Jahangirnagar University has been postponed from January 1 to January 3.
Additionally, the university has decided to reduce the number of admission test units from ten to seven.
This decision was made during a meeting of the university’s central admission committee on Thursday, according to Syed Mohammad Ali Reza, Deputy Registrar (Education) and Secretary of the central admission committee.
Ali Reza said: “The application date was postponed due to some new decisions. We have decided to increase the pass mark from 33% to 35%. It was also decided that no more than four students can be admitted under the quota for dependents in a single department. Additionally, there was a decision to reduce the application fee, but the exact reduction amount is yet to be determined and will be finalized soon.”
It has been learned that the Institute of Information Technology (IIT), the Institute of Comparative Literature and Culture and the Faculty of Law have decided not to conduct separate admission tests.
Instead, IIT will conduct tests under the Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, while the Faculty of Law and the Institute of Comparative Literature and Culture will conduct tests under the Faculty of Arts.
The other units will follow the previously announced guidelines.
Earlier, on December 19, the university had issued a notification to conduct admission tests in ten units.
However, following student protests, the administration decided to reduce the number of units and lower the application fees.
