Sarjis Alam, a key coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has called on advisers Nahid Islam, Asif Mahmud and Mahfuj Alam to adopt a revolutionary approach and dismantle the bureaucracy, saying the entire nation supports their efforts.
In the wake of a fire that broke out at the Bangladesh Secretariat early on Thursday, Sarjis voiced his strong outrage.
He emphasized that reforming the state requires eliminating "opportunists" still deeply rooted within the bureaucracy and administration, stating that the time for warnings has passed.
On Facebook, he said: "Over the past 16 years, a significant portion of the bureaucrats, who have been key stakeholders of the Awami League’s opportunist faction, helped Hasina consolidate her power in this country. Whenever revolutionaries focused on Hasina’s misdeeds, theft, plundering and corruption and investigations began, the loyalists hidden within the Secretariat burned critical files exposing these wrongdoings."
He added: "To reform the state, we must first uproot the opportunists still hiding within the bureaucracy and administration. There is no more time for warnings."
Mentioning advisers Nahid Islam, Asif Mahmud and Mahfuj Alam, he said: "Take on a revolutionary role. The entire nation stands with you."
The fire that broke out at the Bangladesh Secretariat at midnight was brought under control by 8:05am, after nearly six hours.
