Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that a letter has been sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate the return of ex-prime minister Sheikh Hasina from India.

He made the comment on Monday, while responding to a journalist's question at an event held at the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) headquarters in Pilkhana, Dhaka.

When asked about bringing Sheikh Hasina back from India, the adviser said: "A letter has already been sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The process is underway for extradition."

On the method of her return, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said: "We have a prisoner exchange agreement with India. It will be carried out under that agreement."

Addressing a query regarding the recent influx of 60,000 Rohingyas, he clarified: "This figure is not from the last two months; rather, 60,000 Rohingyas have entered the country over the past one and a half to two years. We will no longer allow any more Rohingyas to enter under any circumstances."

The adviser further said: "The Myanmar border is now entirely under the control of the Arakan Army. While informal communication with them is possible, there is no scope for official discussions. We are working to resolve this issue (Rohingya crisis) as soon as possible."
