Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed on Friday said the BNP has contributed to every successful achievement of the nation.
“BNP has never backed down from any democratic movement. In the past, many have allied with dictators but BNP never did so. Rather, BNP is a party to be proud of making successful contributions to every achievement of the nation,” he said while addressing an impromptu rally after exchanging views with families of martyrs in Mohammadpur in the capital.
Earlier, at the directive of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, a delegation of Amra BNP Paribar exchanged views with families of martyrs and injured of the July uprising in the Mohammadpur area.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the BNP made a glorious contribution to the 1971 Liberation War, November 7, 1975, the Anti-Ershad movement in 1990 and mass-uprising in 2024.
He said 7th November was a protest against the wrongdoings of the Awami League.
Describing the movement of 1990s, the BNP leader said, Sheikh Hasina joined hands with HM Ershad within 24 hours after declaring Ershad as “national traitor” and later took part in the general election.
That is why Awami League cannot be proud of the movement of 1990 while August 5, 2024 is a history of Sheikh Hasina's fleeing, he said.
Rizvi said everyone has the right to form a political party. Therefore, the participants of the democratic movement must respect the values of democracy, he said.
