Chairman of As-Sunnah Foundation and eminent Islamic thinker Sheikh Ahmadullah has said that excellent religious harmony is maintained among the people of Bangladesh.
He said this while talking to reporters after exchanging views with the chief adviser on Thursday.
He said: “The chief adviser expressed how the people of Bangladesh, especially the people of other religions other than Muslims, are doing. As we have noticed, excellent religious recitation is maintained among us.”
Earlier in the day, Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus exchanged views with religious leaders.
Shaikh Ahmadullah said: "We all talked today about how to hold it better. Everyone expressed their opinion. The chief adviser listened to us very carefully and said about a beautiful harmonious Bangladesh where there will be no fear. His government is trying to build it."
Mentioning that the leaders of different religions came at the call of the chief adviser, he said: "We have said that the religious leadership of the Ulama of this country is very responsible. Because of this responsibility, you have seen that Muslims showed patience and restraint even after the murder of the lawyer. We applaud it and strive to keep it. Everyone spoke in the same tone – we want to build a Bangladesh of harmony. The way the people of Bangladesh have created a shining example of religious harmony is rare. We should not step into any propaganda. Let's all be united. That's why everyone talked. We hope that a harmonious Bangladesh will be built that will take the country to a better place than today. Everyone said from their own place that we are maintaining peace and harmony. Islam tells us to behave responsibly concerning other religions.
"When we see minorities being tortured, hurt and their places of worship being demolished in groups, we feel that we need to pay attention to the advice we hear from our neighbourhood," he added.
“The minority brothers of our country are safe. Just as the government is working to keep them safe when they are unsafe, the religious leadership is also working from their place. We will remain united from our place. Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists all want to take this country forward as brothers. We don't have any cracks in this place. There is no discord,” he further said.
