Advisory Council to issue gazette declaring Nazrul national poet

Also approved proposal to establish a Bangladesh High Commission in Wellington

The interim government's Advisory Council has approved the issuance of a gazette declaring Kazi Nazrul Islam as Bangladesh's national poet.

The council also approved the proposal to establish a Bangladesh High Commission in Wellington, the capital of New Zealand.

These decisions were made at a meeting of the Advisory Council held Thursday at the Chief Adviser’s Office in Tejgaon, Dhaka.

The meeting was chaired by Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus. 

New Zealand is recognized as one of the most prosperous nations in the South-West Pacific region, based on indicators of political stability and good governance. It ranks 16th on the Human Development Index and 32nd in global competitiveness. 

With its high purchasing power, New Zealand presents a promising market for Bangladeshi products. 

Approximately 10,000 Bangladeshis currently reside in New Zealand, and about 1,000 Bangladeshi students are enrolled in various universities there.
