Mahmudur Rahman Manna, the President of Nagorik Oikya, has strongly condemned and expressed outrage over the attack by the extremist group "Hindu Sangarsh Samiti" on Bangladesh's Assistant High Commission in Agartala, Tripura, India.
In a statement sent to the media on Tuesday night, Manna said that the attack carried out by the extremist group "Hindu Sangarsh Samiti" on the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh can be considered an attack on Bangladesh itself.
The assault, vandalism inside the Assistant High Commission, and the desecration of Bangladesh's national flag are clear violations of the Geneva Convention.
Calling upon the Indian government and its people, Manna said: "We hope they will respect the democratic aspirations of the new Bangladesh. We do not seek hostility with a neighbouring country, but we will not compromise on protecting our sovereignty and the rights of our people."
Manna further said: "India must formally apologize to Bangladesh for its failure to prevent the attack on the Assistant High Commission and the desecration of the national flag. Additionally, India must ensure the highest level of security for Bangladesh's High Commission and its citizens residing there."
