Mamunul Haque, the secretary general of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, described the August 5 revolution as a significant step toward an Islamic revolution in the country.
Speaking at a grand convention of the District Qaumi Madrasa Council held at the central Eidgah ground, he addressed an audience on Sunday night, emphasizing the transformative potential of the event.
“The Tawhidi people of Bengal are one of the driving forces behind the revolution of August 5. This revolution was a revolution against shirk (polytheism). I am not claiming this to be a complete Islamic revolution yet. However, I will certainly say that this revolution is a precursor to an Islamic revolution,” Haque said during his speech as the chief guest.
He likened the events to a dawn signaling the arrival of a new era. “Just as the appearance of Subh-e-Sadiq (the dawn) indicates the imminent rise of the sun, the revolution of August 5 has vividly shown every person in Bengal that the people of this country are preparing for an Islamic revolution,” Haque remarked.
The Islamic scholar asserted that Bangladesh is destined to undergo an Islamic transformation. “The inevitable revolution on the soil of Bengal will be an Islamic revolution. Bangladesh will become the Bangladesh of Islam. Its governance will follow Islamic principles. The constitution will be based on the Quran, and politics will adhere to the principles of Khilafat (Islamic governance),” he added.
Haque also called for constitutional reforms to align the nation’s legal framework with Islamic principles. “No law or policy against the laws of Allah or the Quran and Sunnah will be effective in Bangladesh. This principle must be incorporated into the newly reformed constitution,” he said.
