The provision for appeals against interim orders of the International Crimes Tribunal has been included to ensure justice, Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul Islam has said.
The adviser made the statement in response to journalists' questions on Thursday after inspecting the renovation work of the main building of the tribunal.
When asked whether allowing appeals against interim orders would delay the judicial process, Dr Asif Nazrul said the provision for appeals was intended to uphold justice and was applicable only in very limited circumstances.
Responding to questions about moving away from prosecuting political parties under the International Crimes (Tribunal) Act, he said introducing political issues into the process should be avoided to preserve the integrity of justice.
Present during the visit were Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan and prosecutors of the tribunal.
On Wednesday, the interim government's advisory council gave its policy-level and final approval to the draft of the International Crimes (Tribunal) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024 at the Secretariat.
