Due to heavy rains and flash floods, 7,722 km of roads have been initially damaged this year, accoring to LGED Additional Chief Engineer Gopal Krishna Debnath.
He shared this information on Tuesday during a three-day training program on integrated guidelines, organized by the Climate-Resilient Local Infrastructure Center (CReLIC) at the LGED headquarters training center.
Gopal Krishna Debnath said: "Excessive rainfall and hill torrents have initially damaged 7,722 km of roads. Additionally, 1,101 bridges and culverts have been damaged. So far, LGED has repaired 51 km of roads and 96 bridges and culverts. Given the likelihood of such floods and hill torrents continuing due to climate change, it's essential to review past data before designing and constructing every road and structure. This way, we can create long-term sustainable infrastructure."
Additional Chief Engineer and CReLIC Director Md Abdul Hakim and IDC-CReLIC Team Leader Dr Dan Boom gave welcome speeches at the training event.
Also present were CRIM-CReLIC Project Director Md Abdul Khaleq and Training Specialist Banda Hafiz.
Former LGED Additional Chief Engineer and CReLIC Director AKM Lutfar Rahman presented as the trainer, while Senior Specialist of IDC-CReLIC Oyvind Homdran was the chief trainer.
Thirty LGED engineers from Bhola, Barguna, and Satkhira districts, along with senior assistant engineers, assistant engineers, and other LGED headquarters personnel, participated in the three-day training.
