Bangladesh Railway (BR) has introduced special trains to help farmers and businesses transport agricultural and other goods across the country at affordable rates.
The first of these special trains began its journey from Jessore on October 22, followed by the second from Panchagarh on October 24, and a third from Rajshahi on Saturday.
BR Director General Sardar Shahadat Ali said: “We have launched these trains to provide a cost-effective option for transporting goods, as part of the government’s efforts to stabilize commodity prices.”
Additionally, leaders and activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement are selling essential goods at fair prices in various districts.
According to BR sources, each special train can carry up to 120 tons of goods daily. The trains are equipped with modern luggage vans for transporting fruits and vegetables, as well as refrigerated vans for frozen products like fish, meat, and milk.
The train carrying charge for goods from Khulna to Dhaka has been fixed at Tk1.47 per kg, Jessore-Dhaka at Tk1.35 per kg, Chuadanga-Dhaka at Tk1.30 per kg, Ishwardi-Dhaka at Tk1.08 per kg, Parbotipur-Dhaka at Tk1.34 per kg, Joypurhat-Dhaka at Tk1.30 per Kg, Santahar-Dhaka at Tk1.19 per kg, Rajshahi-Dhaka at Tk1.18 per kg, and Rohanpur-Dhaka at Tk1.30 per kg.
