The severe cyclonic storm Dana over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha and West Bengal coasts moved north-northwestwards, crossing the northern Odisha coast around early on Friday.
Lying over northern Odisha and adjoining areas, it was likely to move west-northwestwards further and weaken gradually, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department said in its latest special weather bulletin.
Under its influence, gusty or squally winds are likely to affect the northern Bay, maritime ports and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.
The maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra are advised to keep hoisted Local Cautionary Signal No 3.
All fishing boats and trawlers in the northern Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain in shelter till Saturday morning.
