A group of former Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders, the student wing of the ousted Awami League on Monday staged a protest march in front of the party’s central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka.

They demanded the dismissal of all cases lodged against Awami League president and ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

They cautioned that if the interim government does not voluntarily withdraw these cases, they would be "compelled" to take action against the government.

Before the march, Anwar Hossain, a former joint general secretary of Chhatra League, said: "Injustice is being perpetrated by filing fabricated cases against Bangabandhu's daughter, Sheikh Hasina. We are gathered here to protest this wrongdoing. All false charges need to be dismissed immediately.

"We, as previous leaders of the Chhatra League, are on the streets, and if these fabricated cases are not dropped, we will take strong programs.”

Anwar Hossain also asserted that Sheikh Hasina was "forced to leave the country" on August 5.

Nizam Uddin, the former first joint convener of Jagannath University unit Chhatra League, said: "The oppressive government currently in power and filing baseless cases against Sheikh Hasina through its allies. We firmly demand that these cases be withdrawn,"

Other Chhatra League leaders present at the protest included former joint general secretary Md Jasim Uddin, former mass education affairs secretary Abu Abbas Bhuiyan, former vice president MM Nazmul Hasan, former assistant secretary Enamul Haque Prince, Hasan Ahmed Khan, former joint convener of the Dhaka College unit, Sohel Rana, former vice presidents of the Eden College unit Parveen Mishu and Laboni Chowdhury, and Sheikh Muhammad Jamal Hossain, a central committee member of the Bangladesh Awami Volunteer League, among others.

Since Sheikh Hasina's government's fall on August 5, amid the mass uprising, over a hundred cases have been filed against her, with many alleging murder.

In numerous cases, alongside Sheikh Hasina, former ministers, MPs, Awami League officials, and several senior police figures, including the former inspector general of police (IGP) and the previous commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), have also been named as defendants.

Additionally, concerning two allegations of "genocide" about the crackdown on the anti-discrimination student protests, the International Crimes Tribunal has issued arrest warrants for Sheikh Hasina and 46 others.

The current leaders of the student wing echoed the same demands in a press release signed by Chhatra League President Saddam Hussain and General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Enan.
