Hindu devotees demand extension of Durga Puja holidays

The Hindu devotees also trial of those involved in communal violence

Hindu devotees have brought out a procession to press home their eight-point demand, including the extension of Durga Puja holidays and trial of those involved in communal violence.

The torch procession started from the Central Shaheed Minar at 6pm and ended at Ramna Kali Temple. 

They chanted various slogans during this time.

Himel Dhar, who participated in the torch rally, said: "Our eight-point demands include speedy trial tribunals in cases of attacks on minorities after the fall of the government and implementation a five-day holiday for Durga Puja.”

He further added: “We want compensation and rehabilitation of those affected by communal violence, enactment of minority protection law, formation of minority affairs ministry.”

He also said upgradation of Hindu Religious Welfare Trust to Hindu Foundation, upgradation of Buddhist and Christian Religious Welfare Trust to Foundation.
