With over 20 years of experience with the British Council, Stephen will lead initiatives focusing on education, arts, and the English language in Bangladesh.
Stephen Forbes brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having previously served as country director in Sudan, Kuwait, and Botswana.
His extensive background includes positions as regional programs director for East Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa.
Additionally, Stephen has acted as the European co-director for a legal reform program in China funded by the European Union.
He holds an MSc in Business Administration from London Business School and an MA (Hons) in Mandarin Chinese from Edinburgh University.
In his new role, Stephen said: "I am thrilled to be taking on the role of country director for Bangladesh with the British Council. Exciting opportunities are emerging in the country, especially for the youth. My goal is to build upon the strong connections already established between the people of Bangladesh and the UK, and to enhance the dynamic operation we have here.
“Our projects and products in the arts, education, and English will aim to leverage these opportunities. I look forward to collaborating closely with our friends, partners, and the dedicated British Council team to strengthen ties between Bangladesh and the UK. I hope we can further improve opportunities, deepen our peaceful exchanges, and create a lasting impact," he added.
Stephen will oversee an operation that has been active in Bangladesh for 73 years, working to transform lives and build enduring partnerships between the UK and Bangladesh.
