The British Council has announced the launch of the 11th edition of its prestigious Study UK Alumni Awards, inviting UK alumni residing in Bangladesh to apply.
The awards aim to recognize the outstanding achievements of international students who have utilized their UK education to make significant contributions to their communities, industries, and countries.
In 2024, the awards will focus on four categories: Business and Innovation, Culture and Creativity, Science and Sustainability, and Social Action.
Eligible applicants can compete on both the global and national stages of the Alumni Awards. To qualify, applicants must have graduated from a UK university within the past 15 years. The submission deadline for applications is October 21, 2024.
Stephen Forbes, the British Council’s Country Director in Bangladesh, encouraged all eligible alumni to apply, saying: "These awards recognize those who have made significant contributions in their fields. This honor from the UK enhances career visibility, expands networks, and inspires others."
Winners of the global Alumni Awards will be announced in 2025, followed by a digital campaign highlighting their achievements. As part of their prize, winners will be invited on a trip to the UK, where they will reconnect with their universities, meet GREAT scholars, and network with other global winners. This visit aims to boost their international profiles and career prospects.
In addition to the global competition, Bangladesh will host its own national award ceremonies. Finalists for the national awards will be revealed between December 2024 and March 2025.
In 2023, the awards received over 1,188 applications from alumni across 97 countries. In Bangladesh, the winners of the 2023 National Awards included Prof Khondaker A Mamun for Business and Innovation, Dr Kamrun Koly for Science and Sustainability, and Mohammad Taqi Yasir for Social Action.
Reflecting on his win, Mohammad Taqi Yasir, an alumnus of the University of London, said: "The recognition from the British Council has significantly increased my credibility. This award will help me achieve my goals faster than I anticipated."
