International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Chief Prosecutor Md Tajul Islam on Tuesday said the brutal and highly discussed murders surrounding the July-August uprising will be prioritized for investigation and brought to justice.
He made the statement while speaking to journalists in Dhaka.
The chief prosecutor said that efforts are being made to quickly conclude the investigations of the high-profile murder of Abu Sayed in Rangpur, as well as the murders in Ashulia where bodies were burned, along with the brutal killings in Uttara and Jatrabari, in order to bring them to trial.
“However, everything depends on how quickly the tribunal can be reconstituted,” he added.
Although the investigation team and prosecution of the ICT remain active, the trial process has been halted due to the absence of judges.
The former ICT chairman, Justice Md Abu Ahmed Jamadar, retired on July 13. Another member judge has returned to the High Court. Currently, there are no judges in the tribunal.
Also present at the time were prosecutors Gazi Monowar Hossain Tamim, BM Sultan Mahmud, and Abdullah Al Noman.
