Bangladesh Bank has increased the cash withdrawal limit from banks to Tk5 lakh per account this week, which was Tk4 lakh the previous week.
The central bank issued a directive in this regard on Saturday night.
The directive says transferring money at bank branches is difficult for security reasons. Therefore, withdrawals from a single account cannot exceed Tk5 lakh. Transactions must be monitored through cheques, and suspicious transactions must be stopped.
Notably, the withdrawal limit was up to four Tk4 last week, compared to Tk3 lakh the week before.
Similarly, the prior two weeks had maximum withdrawal limits of Tk2 lakh and Tk1 lakh, respectively, indicating that the withdrawal limit increased by Tk1 lakh each week for four weeks.
Previously, the Bangladesh Bank also sent urgent messages to banks' managing directors (MDs) regarding the security issues in transferring money at branches according to their directives.
Although cash withdrawals are limited per the central bank's directive, customers can still transfer any amount of money and conduct digital transactions.
