Update : 26 Aug 2024, 05:17 PM

The bank accounts of journalist Nayeemul Islam Khan, former press secretary to Sheikh Hasina, have been frozen.

Additionally, the personal and institutional bank accounts of his wife and children have been ordered to be suspended.

On Sunday, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) issued directives to the country's banks and financial institutions to freeze the accounts.

All transactions through the personal and business accounts of those whose accounts have been frozen will be suspended.

No transactions can be made in these accounts for the next 30 days.

The BFIU's letter stated that relevant provisions of the Anti-Money Laundering Regulations will apply to this order.

The letter also provided the names and national identification details of Nayeemul Islam Khan and his family members. As a result of the account suspension, they will no longer be able to withdraw any money.
