A complaint register case (CR case) has been filed in the Noakhali court against Abul Hossain Mohammed Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, a retired justice of the Appellate Division of Bangladesh Supreme Court, for making derogatory remarks about BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman.
Rabbiul Hasan Palash, the organizing secretary of the Central Committee of Bangladesh Nationalist Farmers' Association, filed the case at the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court in Noakhali on Monday.
According to the case statement, Chowdhury Manik made derogatory comments about Ziaur Rahman, stating: “Ziaur Rahman was not a freedom fighter; he was a spy for Pakistan.”
The case statement says that he made these statements with the intent to malign Ziaur Rahman’s personal and political reputation. These comments were widely disseminated through print, electronic, and social media.
Notably, during a talk show aired on "Channel i" in July amidst student protests, Manik's remarks, including misogynistic and insulting behavior, were witnessed by the public and went viral on social media.
Rabbiul Hasan Palash has confirmed the filing of the case and stated that the court has scheduled a hearing for the case next Wednesday.
