Update : 17 Aug 2024, 04:24 PM

Economist and public policy expert Masrur Reaz has decided not to take up the position of chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).

He informed the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance about his decision on Saturday.

Following the political changes in the country, on August 13, the Financial Institutions Division appointed Masrur Reaz as the new chairman of BSEC.

After this appointment, various parties and some BSEC officials raised objections on social media.

In response to these objections, Reaz took some time to decide on joining the new position. However, during this period, the BSEC officials withdrew their objection.

Reaz is chairman and CEO of Policy Exchange Bangladesh, a private think tank.

He worked as a senior economist in the Finance, Competitiveness, and Innovation (FCI) Global Practice of the World Bank Group (WBG), where he served for ten years 2010-2020.
