Members of the Bangladesh Army have rescued 30 individuals who were detained by students in the Dhanmondi 32 area and nearby roads in the capital.
The rescue operation took place at around 1pm on Thursday at the Shukrabad New Model University College campus, located opposite Dhanmondi 32.
The detentions occurred during when students took positions in and around Dhanmondi from Wednesday night.
On Thursday morning, a group of Awami League activists and supporters approached Dhanmondi 32 but were chased away by the students.
In the ensuing tensions, several people were beaten in the Dhanmondi 32 and Shukrabad areas on suspicion of being affiliated with the Awami League.
Mobile phones of passersby were checked, and individuals found with photos of Bangabandhu or information related to the Awami League were detained.
Earlier in the day, at least 10 people were captured from the Dhanmondi Road 32 area in the capital and handed over to the police.
The 10 were detained from early Thursday morning to 11:30am and handed over to Dhanmondi police station.
