Intercity train services resume after 28 days

Ticket sales for these trains began on Monday

Update : 15 Aug 2024, 03:38 PM

Intercity train services, which had been halted due to violence during the recent quota reform movement, resumed early on Thursday after 28 days.

Engineer Md Saiful Islam, the divisional railway manager (DRM) of the Eastern Region, confirmed the matter.

Earlier on Tuesday, Bangladesh Railway Director (Public Relations) Md Nahid Hasan Khan had announced that intercity train services would resume on Thursday.

Ticket sales for these trains began on Monday. However, the operations of the Parabat and Jamalpur express trains will remain temporarily suspended, even though other trains have resumed services.

Before this, on Tuesday, mail, express, local, and commuter train services had resumed, while freight train services had resumed a day earlier.

It is worth noting that train services had been significantly reduced since July 18. After the imposition of curfews on July 19, train services were completely halted.

Although commuter trains operated on a limited scale from August 1 to 3, the railway authorities announced a complete suspension of all train services on the night of August 4.
