SHUJAN-Citizens for Good Governance, a non-partisan citizen’s platform, on Sunday urged the interim government led by Professor Dr Muhmmad Yunus to take short and long-term planning for reforming the state systems.
For this, the organization also urged the interim government to take five short and 19 long-term plans and implement those as well.
SHUJAN made the call at a press conference titled "Doings of interim government in reforming state system" at a Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) auditorium here. SHUJAN central coordinator Dilip Kumar Sarker read out a written statement in the press conference.
SHUJAN Secretary Badiul Alam Majumder said the interim government has started its journey under the leadership of Nobel Laureate Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus. “I extended my congratulations to them. My good wishes to them at the beginning of the historical journey. I wish success of the government,” he added.
He said it is obvious that the interim government has to face so many challenges. But, there are some works, which have to be started on an urgent basis for the sake of the country. At the same time, the government has to keep in mind about the issues of medium and long-term challenges.
In this connection, he said the issues to bringing law and order situation under control, ensuring the safety of public lives, making a list of victims, who were killed or injured during recent movements, providing assistance to the victims' families, bringing the culprits under book following a thorough investigation under the United Nations and ensuring protection of religious establishments of minority communities across the country.
He, however, said that the long-term measures included amendment of the constitution, institutional reform, changing of the electoral system, reform of electoral laws, reforms of the neutral caretaker government system and election commission, effectiveness of the Jatiya Sangsad and freedom of judiciary, among others.
In the press conference, the speakers greeted the chief adviser and all other advisors of the interim government.
SHUJAN members Professor Rubayet Ferdous and Ekram Hossain and Joint Secretary Jakir Hossain were present, among others.
