Former prime minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina has accused the United States of being involved in her removal from power.
In a message to party leaders and activists on Saturday, reported by Indian media outlet The Print, Hasina alleged that foreign powers, particularly the US, played a role in ousting her.
She said: "I could have remained in power if I had handed over St Martin's Island and the Bay of Bengal to America."
Dhaka Tribune could not independently verify the comment.
Sheikh Hasina's comments come shortly after the Indian government announced it would investigate the possibility of a "foreign hand" behind Bangladesh's political crisis.
