Krishak Sramik Janata League President Bangabir Abdul Kader Siddique has said it would have been better if he had died before seeing Bangabandhu’s house at Dhanmondi 32 burn.
Visiting the house on Wednesday, Kader Siddique said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Sheikh Hasina are not the same thing. “Bangabandhu is the father of the nation, the great hero of freedom.”
“Surely, the Awami League has done many wrong things. But Sheikh Mujib has not done anything [wrong], he brought honour to the nation. This devastation will remain a disgrace for the nation.”
Calling upon student leaders, he said: “Save the country from destruction. Save the lives of the minorities. Being from the Awami League does not equal being at fault, do not lay hands on any Awami League member. Establish peace in the country. I want peace in the country from now on.”
Congratulating Dr Muhammad Yunus, Kader Siddique said: “There is no point in him (Dr Yunus) sitting in Paris for even a moment. If he does not bring peace and order to the country, the consequences will be the same. That is why I am asking everyone to be patient. I am asking everyone to stay under control.”
“Congratulations to the students. Protecting the peace and order of the country is a big responsibility. I hope they will not fail in this responsibility.”
He further said: “Bangabandhu will be alive, his honour will live forever. Those who committed this crime will be brought to justice one day.”
Stating that nothing will happen to Awami League leaders and workers, he said: “It is not a bigger disaster than what happened through the killing of Bangabandhu. They will suffer for some time. But it will not be the end of the world.”
