Prime Minister's Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman has spent the most on individual-level advertisements on Facebook in Bangladesh, followed by State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak.
This information is revealed from Facebook's Ad Library report on advertising on Facebook from September 2022 to July 25 this year.
Salman and Palak have spent the most on personal pages on Facebook.
According to the report, certain pages have recently increased their ad spending. These pages have recently posted various controversial and critical topics.
Among the top 10 pages, Nagad tops the list. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) ranks seventh among the groups, the BNP’s Media Cell ninth, while the ruling Awami League’s page is lower on the list at 13.
The report says Nagad has 136 advertisements in its page library for which the organization spent $37,430, Salman F Rahman has 707 advertisements for which he spent $26,975, and Palak has 491 advertisements for which he spent $26,863.
The other pages topping the list include Press Xpress, Rupganjer Kotha, Bhalor Pothe, and Panjeree Publications Ltd, among others.
Except for the Panjeree Publications Ltd page, which was established in 2011, the other groups were created between 2018 and 2022.
Given their recent creation, these pages have spent significant amounts on advertisements to boost their profiles. This has propelled them to the top of the list with a high number of followers, although these pages are relatively unknown to the public.
Spending on advertisements is an effective way for building brand awareness, engaging with audience, and generating leads. It helps maximize visibility and grow the page’s audience.
Politicians have also been boosting Facebook posts more recently. Among them are lawmakers Mahmud Hasan Ripon from Gaibandha-5, Salma Islam holding Women Seat-49, and MA Razzak Khan.
The country's political parties have also increased their attention to Facebook ads.
The analysis shows that about $100 is being spent to boost the posts given on these pages. Out of this, most money is being spent in Dhaka and Chittagong regions. The least money is spent in Barisal and Rangpur divisions.
