Mobile internet is likely to be restored in Bangladesh around 3pm on Sunday.

The announcement was made by State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak at a briefing after meeting with mobile operators at BTRC Bhaban in Dhaka.

He said that 5GB of internet would be provided for free to all users for three days after the connection is restored.

Regarding access to social media platforms, the state minister said the BTRC has sent letters to authorities of social media platforms, including Facebook, Tiktok and YouTube.

“Their representatives have to come to Dhaka by July 31 to give explanations. Then, after discussing it with them, we will make a decision,” he added.

Internet connectivity across Bangladesh was disrupted for five consecutive days, from the night of July 17 to late July 23.

While broadband internet services have been partially restored since July 23, mobile internet remains down.
