At least 10 people were injured in a clash between police and students of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU).
The clash broke out as police obstructed a protest march of SAU students who were demonstrating for quota reform.
On Thursday around 4pm, the students began their protest march in front of the university's central library.
When they tried to exit through the second gate of the university and head towards Agargaon intersection, the police intervened.
As the students attempted to bypass the police barricade, the police resorted to a baton charge, resulting in injuries to ten students.
Subsequently, the students managed to overcome the police obstruction and took a position on the road adjacent to the Planning Ministry.
As of the time of writing, the students are blocking the Mirpur-Farmgate road, chanting various anti-quota slogans.
One of the protesting students said: "We are conducting a peaceful movement. Our protest is not against the government. Yet, the police have baton-charged us. We will not leave the streets until our demands are met. Our single demand is to reform the discriminatory quota system to make it five percent."
