Meanwhile, at Jagannathganj Ghat in Sarishabari, it rose by 4cm, now at 119cm above the danger level.

This has led to the flooding of Dewanganj, Bakshiganj, Islampur, Melandaha, Madarganj, and 50 unions in Sarishabari, affecting 200,000 people.

New areas are being inundated by floodwaters every day, submerging thousands of hectares of crops and roads.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Alamgir Hossain said: “Flooding has led to the closure of 105 primary and 31 secondary schools. Thousands of families have sought shelter in 11 relief centres. The affected areas are experiencing shortages of food and potable water.

“To assist, 300 tons of rice and 4,000 packets of dry food have been distributed, and 11 medical teams have been deployed.”

Meanwhile, relief distribution among the flood victims was conducted on Sunday afternoon in the Bahadurabad union of Dewanganj upazila under the supervision of the Dewanganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sheikh Jahid Hasan Prince.
