Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain on Monday lauded the role of the media in unravelling information about corruption by former and current officials of the police and the National Bureau of Revenue (NBR).
He thanked the journalists for covering such news during a media briefing at the secretariat on Monday.
In response to a question, he said: "I thank them for the news that is coming out in the media about the corruption of government officials. But beyond that, many officials have to be punished for corruption. However, we don't publish that information in our news. Therefore, not everyone knows about this.”
He also said that some recent measures have brought down the costs of officials going abroad by spending government project money by 90%.
