Government strengthening monitoring to ensure fair price of sacrificial animals

To prevent the artificial crisis of sacrificial animals, besides ensuring fair prices and smooth movement of animal transport ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, the concerned people are closely monitoring under the leadership of senior officials of the government.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave various instructions regarding the sacrifice in the preparatory meeting of Eid-ul-Azha on Tuesday.

The meeting was held at the prime minister's office.

In the meeting, along with strengthening monitoring in the online market, a series of decisions were taken on the availability of sacrificial animals, transport and market management, ensuring safety, waste management, and rawhide management of sacrificial animals.

In a message sent to the media on Wednesday, the prime minister's office informed about these decisions.

Prime Minister's Chief Secretary Md Tofazzal Hossain Mia presided over the meeting and the secretaries of various government ministries, inspector general of police, BGMEA representatives, and representatives of various departments and organizations participated in the meeting.

In the meeting, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock informed there is enough supply of sacrificial animals this year. There is no risk of shortage as there is sufficient supply. If the market management is ensured, it is expected that the sacrificial animals will be bought and sold at a reasonable price.

Necessary steps are being taken in coordination with all concerned to prevent artificial crisis.

In the meeting, a series of decisions were taken on the availability of animals, transport, management of the cattle market and online market, and security.

The decisions are

- Vigilant monitoring should be continued to ensure the availability of sacrificial animals and reasonable prices in buying and selling. Monitoring of the online market should be strengthened.

- Necessary measures should be taken to keep the movement of vehicles carrying sacrificial animals orderly and uninterrupted. For this purpose, field administration as well as inter-departmental coordination should be strengthened. On-site supervision by law enforcement agencies should be continued.

- The local government institutions will coordinate with the police to prevent the establishment of sacrificial animal markets at specific places and to prevent the tendency of markets to be established everywhere.

- All the concerned departments will work on the basis of cooperation to carry out proper management of sacrificial animal markets.

- The law and order forces will take all possible measures to ensure the safety of sacrificial animal markets, transport, buyers and sellers and to prevent any kind of fraud.

Decisions on animal sacrifice and removal of garbage at specified places

- City Corporations, Municipalities and Union Parishads from the local government departments should ensure the proper implementation of the instructions given regarding animal sacrifices at specific places.

- The two city corporations of Dhaka have to remove 100% of the waste in the shortest possible time under direct and on-site supervision. Besides, all the necessary measures including adequate cleaning staff and waste transport vehicles should be taken as per the plan in advance.

- To create public awareness about rawhide conservation, the relevant ministries and departments will conduct extensive campaigns in social media including print and electronic media.

In addition, the meeting discussed and decided on various issues including making the Eid journey and return journey safe and smooth, preparation, activities, and inter-departmental close coordination of the relevant ministries to keep the overall law and order situation normal, supply of daily commodities before Eid, stocking and price control.
